Beasts

Many small beasts are found throughout the Tower of Barbs that the player can catch, eat, or sell. Beasts can be picked up by approaching them while crouched (Note: not every beast will come willingly!). Once in hand, they may be eaten or stored in the Death Bag for later use. Thrown beasts can be used to distract some enemies.

In addition to this, beasts can be attacked or crushed; each beast will produce a unique mushroom when crushed. See the Shrooms page for details on these mushrooms.

1 Frog Max's Area Body fluids protects its skin from dehydration. Beasts living in the tower have evolved uniquely due to the mushroom spores. The spores also evolve, feeding on corpses to become mushrooms at an alarming speed. 60 HP (S) 100 HP (M) Frongus 5 / 10 70 Crouch to collect.
2 Scorpion Max's Area Despite the distinctive yellow muscles and ferocious sting, it is in fact not poisonous. 140 HP (M) 200 HP (M) Stingshroom 12 / 24 168 Stomp twice to stun, then crouch to collect.
3 Rat Max's Area Prefers dark, damp places and is omnivorous. Incredibly fertile, it is found everywhere. 100 HP (M) 160 HP (M) Mouseshroom 8 / 16 112 Crouch to collect.
4 Fish Jackson's Area Driven from its habitat by the Earth Rage, it has adapted to live among the sewage. 360 HP (M) 500 HP (L) Fishy Fungus 32 / 64 448 Spawns in streams. Stomp twice to stun.
5 Snail Max's Area Grows huge by absorbing harmful spores from the Tower of Barbs, and sprays poison when threatened. 160 HP (M) 200 HP (M) Snailshroom 24 / 48 336 Stomp or throw uncooked beast to stun. Emits poison cloud when raw. If found hanging on a wall, throw a raw beast at it to knock it down.
6 Crab Jackson's Area Lives near water and hides in its den when sensing danger. Its shell is not too hard and can be eaten. 320 HP (M) 400 HP (M) Vampire Fungus 20 / 40 280 Crouch to collect.
7 Pillbug Jackson's Area Sharp horns grow on its shell and it has adapted to eat meat and grow huge. 450 HP (M) 600 HP (L) Lifeshroom 32 / 64 448 Crouch to collect. To kill, stomp once and if it gets stunned, take a step back and hit with Fists R1/L1 or weapon that hits low enough (bowling ball, bat, etc.)
8 Lizard Crowley's Area An extremely ferocious lizard. Will bite if approached. Odorless and tasty. 1000 HP (XL) 1500 HP (XL) Dragonshroom 98 / 196 1372 Stomp 3 times, then crouch to collect.
9 Honeycomb Crowley's Area The Honeycomb that lives in the Tower of Barbs. Contains highly nutritious larva and honey. 500 HP (L) 700 HP (L) None 52 / 104 728 Found hanging upside-down from ledges and ceilings. Throw a raw beast or shoot with a weapon to get it down. Crouch to collect. Spawns a swarm of bees when agitated.
10 Turtle Gunkanyama's Area Its shell mimics a rock and it has a monkfish-like ecology. It smells bad but it is dense and tasty. 800 HP (L) 1500 HP (XL) Evershroom 84 / 168 1176 Stomp 3 times, then crouch to collect.
11 Bird Gunkanyama's Area Despite its beauty, it has a wild disposition and can be very aggressive. Very fast. Simple yet tasty. 1200 HP (XL) 2000 HP (XXL) Oakshroom 110 / 220 1540 Stomp 3 times to stun, then crouch to collect. Is known to attack back
12 Golden Frog 13F Kamoto Has turned gold due to a sudden genetic change, possibly connected to the Earth Rage. Very rare. Full HP N/A Croakstool 950 1540 Crouch to collect.

17 Golden Crab Has turned gold due to a sudden genetic change, possibly connected to the Earth Rage. Very Rare. Full HP N/A Golden Vampire Fungus 3800 6160 Stomp twice to stun, then crouch to collect. If you miss it will burrow underground, and reappear after a short time.
18 Golden Pillbug Has turned gold due to a sudden genetic change, possibly connected to the Earth Rage. Very Rare. Full HP N/A Golden Lifeshroom 6080 9856 Crouch to collect.
